Hey guys this is going to be a short article, I think I may be coming down with a cold or something. Plague, Inc. is a great game you can pick up for the iPhone or iPad that allows you to take control of a plague set to annihilate the world. There’s not too many, I guess, ‘Disease Simulators’ out there, but I’m comfortable putting this one at the top of the pile. You start your humble bacteria in the country of your choice and from there you gain DNA points by popping bubbles that appear on the map. The idea is to use those points to evolve aspects of your disease that help increase its ability to infect the populous, the severity of its symptoms, or its resistance to finding a cure. The best part of the game is finding the right combination of symptoms or infectious traits to create combos that really make the disease crazy.
For instance evolving coughing traits and vomiting traits combine into projectile vomiting. Those symptoms can help out too when trying to infect others or prevent research, if people are all infected and going insane it’s really going to cut down on their ability to do scientific research for a cure. When the world does start to take your little disease seriously the research for a cure starts and you’re on a clock until enough is done to work out how to stop your plague. Other countries join in and add to it, and you must evolve traits like drug resistance and DNA shuffling to stymie the researchers. Eventually, if you murder everyone in the world you’ll unlock a new type of plague starter like viruses and can attempt to bring down humanity again. Plague, Inc. isn’t exactly a deep game, but it is tremendously fun for a bit and quite tough actually. It’s a dollar in the app store right now, and currently the number one game on the top twenty five list. I could make a joke about the game being ‘infectious’, but I’m starting to feel a bit lightheaded. I think I’ll go lie down. Maybe I’ll see the doctor tomorrow, I hope it’s nothing serious.
